VALPARAISO | Just because an organization is diverse doesn’t mean it’s inclusive, a diversity consultant said Monday.

“Diversity is being invited to the party. Inclusion is being asked to dance,” said Verna Myers, a nationally recognized expert in diversity issues within law firms.

Myers, of Baltimore, is the principal of Verna Meyers Consulting Group. She presented “What if I Say the Wrong Thing? Becoming a Culturally Effective Professional” to 340 Valparaiso University law students, faculty and staff in the Harre Union.

She was invited to speak by the law school’s diversity concerns committee, which was appointed in October by acting Dean Ivan Bodensteiner. The event also was co-sponsored by 24 law student organizations.
